Install via composer:

 mkdir CodeSniffer
 cd CodeSniffer
 composer require aoe/Symfony2-coding-standard

Profit!

 cd /path/to/my/project
 CodeSniffer/vendor/bin/phpcs
 CodeSniffer/vendor/bin/phpcs path/to/my/file.php
