You can start installing:

composer require ssolweb/string-morpher

Use:

use SSolWEB\StringMorpher\StringMorpher as SM;

// you can chain methods
$string = SM::make($string)
    ->trim()
    ->replace('fox', 'dog')
    ->sub(5, 20)
    ->toLower();

$captalizedAlpha = SM::onlyAlpha($string)
    ->captalize();
